A leaf fell from a tree.
In the early autumn weeks,
It became too heavy.
Its beauty was immeasurable,
Its color so divine.
A leaf of such grandeur
Never again will you find.
Too soon the summer sun
Fades away to a chill.
Swept away with the crisp wind,
Which seemingly never stills.
A coldness so constant
That you cannot escape,
A coldness so numbing
That you never awake.
This leaf left so much heartache
In the wake of her fall.
Her beloved have clung on
Come storms and through all.
But some of her fellow leaves,
Too, have tumbled
Leaving those left
Only to crumble.
But come the frosty mornings
Or come the biting cold,
The leaves of this tree have survived,
Grown stronger, beautiful, and bold.
Though the tree has thinned
With the absence of some leaves,
The tree continues to grow,
The roots running deep.
The beautiful leaf is missed
By those she left behind.
Her absence cuts at them
Every single night.
The leaf may have fallen,
But her beauty lives on
In those she left behind
So she’s never truly gone.
